Architectural Takeoff Specialist

This is a hands-on takeoff role, not a drafting role. You will measure architectural drawings yourself and calculate the quantities: linear footage, square footage and counts, laid out in clear takeoff sheets that an estimator can check. We are looking for people who have personally done takeoffs or quantity calculations, such as construction estimators, quantity takeoff professionals and quantity surveyors. CAD drafting, Revit modelling or drawing preparation on its own, without takeoff and quantity calculation work, is not a fit. Scaffolding experience is preferred but not required, because training is provided. Shortlisted candidates complete a practical takeoff test on a sample architectural drawing.

About this role

You will join a remote Estimation / Construction Support team as an Architectural Takeoff Specialist, working with estimators, architects, project managers and other team members. Your main job is to review architectural drawings, plans, elevations and sections, and extract accurate measurements and quantities, including linear footage, square footage and other applicable dimensions, for construction estimation purposes. You will interpret architectural drawings and construction details, perform quantity calculations from plan dimensions and drawing scales, prepare organized takeoff sheets and measurement summaries in Excel or similar tools, and use digital PDF measurement tools or takeoff software to support the process. Quality control matters: you will cross-check your calculations, identify drawing discrepancies, and keep every measurement traceable to its source drawing. After an onboarding period you will receive training in scaffolding-specific takeoff methodology and apply your foundational skills to scaffolding measurement and estimation, with guidance from experienced team members. The ideal candidate is a construction estimator, quantity takeoff professional or quantity surveyor who has personally measured construction drawings and calculated quantities in previous roles. Scaffolding experience is preferred but not mandatory, as it can be trained. CAD drafting, Revit modelling or drawing preparation experience on its own, without demonstrated takeoff and quantity calculation responsibility, is not a fit for this role. Shortlisted candidates complete a four-stage assessment process, including an experience screening, a technical interview and a practical takeoff test on a sample architectural drawing.

What you’ll do

  • Review architectural drawings, plans, elevations and sections
  • Extract accurate measurements and quantities, including linear footage, square footage and other applicable dimensions, for construction estimation
  • Interpret architectural drawings and construction details
  • Perform quantity calculations from plan dimensions and drawing scales
  • Prepare organized takeoff sheets, measurement summaries and quantity schedules in Excel or similar tools
  • Use digital PDF measurement tools or takeoff software to support the takeoff process
  • Cross-check calculations and identify drawing discrepancies before submission
  • Keep every measurement traceable to its source drawing
  • Complete takeoff assignments independently and explain your methodology
  • Work with estimators, architects, project managers and other team members
  • Learn and apply scaffolding-specific takeoff methodology after onboarding

What we’re looking for

  • Demonstrated hands-on, practical experience with architectural or construction takeoffs
  • Reading and interpreting architectural drawings, plans, elevations, sections and construction details
  • Accurate linear footage calculations
  • Ability to distinguish between linear feet, square feet and other measurement units
  • Quantity calculations and measurement verification from construction drawings
  • Extracting dimensions using drawing scales and measurement tools
  • Excel or spreadsheet tools for measurement documentation and calculations
  • Digital drawing and PDF measurement tools
  • Independent completion of takeoff assignments, with the ability to explain your methodology
  • Quality control and cross-checking of calculations before submission
  • Preparing organized takeoff sheets, measurement summaries and quantity schedules

Nice to have

  • Scaffolding takeoff or scaffolding estimation experience
  • Construction estimation, quantity surveying or material takeoff background
  • Familiarity with digital takeoff software, for example Bluebeam, PlanSwift or similar
  • Experience preparing quantity schedules and estimation reports
  • Familiarity with architectural exterior, facade or building envelope measurements
  • Experience with commercial, residential or industrial construction drawings
  • CAD software or drawing viewer proficiency, as a supporting skill and not a substitute for takeoff experience
