About this role
You would work remotely and full-time as a Civil 3D site designer for a U.S.-based residential architectural design and planning firm, on U.S. projects that are mainly residential and multifamily developments in New York. You would take survey data, preliminary architectural plans and engineering markups and independently produce complete, construction-ready civil site plans in Autodesk Civil 3D: surface modeling and site grading, drainage area delineation and pre- and post-development runoff calculations, stormwater management design with drywells, infiltration and detention or retention systems, storm drainage networks, water and sanitary sewer layouts and profiles, earthwork quantities and civil construction documentation. You would work closely with reviewing engineers, architects, surveyors, structural engineers and utility consultants, and revise drawings from their comments. This is not a basic CAD drafting role: you need to understand how grading, drainage structures, stormwater storage and utility elevations work together on a real site, and handle the technical calculations alongside the Civil 3D work. Hiring is active and immediate placement is preferred.
What you’ll do
- Build Civil 3D surfaces from survey data and prepare site grading plans: building elevations, finished grades, driveways, parking lots, sidewalks, accessible routes, swales and slope transitions
- Delineate drainage areas and prepare pre- and post-development runoff calculations
- Design and size stormwater management systems - drywells, infiltration systems and detention or retention systems, including storage and overflow calculations
- Design storm drainage networks: pipe sizing, pipe slopes, invert elevations, catch basins, inlets, culverts and outlets
- Lay out water and sanitary sewer site utilities, with profiles and coordination
- Calculate cut-and-fill earthwork quantities
- Prepare civil construction documentation: site plans, grading and drainage plans, utility plans, profiles, sections and details
- Interpret topographic surveys, architectural plans and engineering markups
- Revise drawings from reviewing engineers' comments and manage drawing revisions
- Coordinate with reviewing engineers, architects, surveyors, structural engineers and utility consultants
What we’re looking for
- 5+ years of professional experience in civil site design, civil engineering or civil drafting focused on land development, ideally residential or multifamily projects
- Strong hands-on Autodesk Civil 3D: surfaces, contours, feature lines, grading, profiles and earthwork calculations
- Site grading plan preparation
- Drainage area delineation and pre- and post-development runoff calculations
- Stormwater management system design (drywells, infiltration, detention and retention)
- Storm drainage network design (pipe sizing, slopes, inverts, catch basins, inlets, culverts)
- Water and sanitary sewer site utility layouts and profiles
- Civil construction documentation (site plans, grading plans, utility plans, profiles, details, notes)
- Interpreting topographic surveys, architectural plans and engineering markups
- Cut-and-fill earthwork quantity calculations
- Independent engineering design and drawing revision management with minimal supervision
- Strong written and spoken English for working with U.S.-based engineers and project teams
- A portfolio of civil site plans you produced yourself
Nice to have
- Direct experience on U.S.-based projects (strongly preferred)
- New York project experience
- Familiarity with New York State and local stormwater management requirements (NYSDEC guidance)
- Knowledge of hydrologic and hydraulic calculation methods and drainage design software
- Experience with residential subdivisions and single-family or multifamily site infrastructure
- Familiarity with U.S. civil engineering drawing conventions and construction documentation standards
- A degree or diploma in Civil Engineering or a related field
- Civil engineering or CAD certifications
