Electrical Permit Drawing & Documentation Specialist

RemoteFull-TimeU.S. business hours

This is a drawing production role, not permit administration or submission management. You would produce the actual permit drawings - electrical one-line and riser diagrams, permit site plans, and full permit document packages - for electrical and EV charging infrastructure projects. If your background is researching jurisdictions, submitting applications and tracking plan check rather than drawing, this is not the role for you. Working from incomplete information is the job here rather than an obstacle: expect client sketches, partial plans and equipment specs, and expect to mark your assumptions on the drawing and keep moving. A portfolio is required - at least one electrical drawing you produced yourself, with client names, site addresses, utility account numbers and any engineer stamp redacted. A redrawn or personal sample is equally acceptable and is not scored lower.

Produce electrical permit drawings for electrical and EV charging infrastructure projects - one-line and riser diagrams, permit site plans, and full permit document packages. Drawing production, not permit administration.

About this role

Most days you would be drawing. You would prepare permit site plans showing charger locations, electrical panels, utility poles, transformers, service disconnects, CT cabinets and meters, and develop one-line and riser diagrams covering the utility service, panel configurations, breaker sizes and equipment ratings. The input is rarely complete: you would work from client sketches, partial plans and equipment specs, decide what you can settle yourself, mark the rest as assumptions on the drawing, and produce a submission-ready set. When feedback comes back from a client, an engineer, a utility or a permitting authority, you would turn the revision around quickly and keep the drawing record straight so the current set is the one that goes out. This is a drafting role, not a permitting one.

What you’ll do

  • Prepare permit site plans showing EV charger locations, electrical panels, utility poles, transformers, service disconnects, CT cabinets and meters
  • Develop one-line and riser diagrams covering utility service, panel configurations, breaker sizes and equipment ratings
  • Produce complete, submission-ready permit drawing sets from existing drawings, client sketches and project specifications
  • Work from incomplete information, settling what you can and marking the rest as assumptions on the drawing
  • Turn around revisions quickly on feedback from clients, engineers, utilities or permitting authorities
  • Manage drawing revisions and documentation so the current set is always the one that goes out

What we’re looking for

  • Hands-on experience producing electrical permit drawings, not reviewing or submitting them
  • One-line and riser diagrams you prepared yourself
  • Site plan preparation and layout
  • AutoCAD or equivalent CAD drafting software
  • Understanding of electrical systems and drawing conventions
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings and technical plans
  • Electrical equipment notation - panels, breakers, disconnects, meters, transformers
  • Drawing revision and documentation management
  • Strong written communication and documentation skills
  • Attention to detail and accuracy

Nice to have

  • EV charging infrastructure experience
  • Familiarity with utility service layouts and CT cabinets
  • Bluebeam
  • Revit
  • PDF editing and markup tools
  • Other electrical drafting or design software
  • Background as a Permit Drawing Specialist or EV Infrastructure Designer
