About this role
This is whole-building energy simulation for U.S. commercial projects. You would develop and review baseline and proposed case energy models to ASHRAE 90.1 Appendix G, model a wide range of HVAC systems across those buildings - VAV with reheat, chilled water plants, air-cooled chillers, packaged rooftop units and heat pump systems - and run the energy cost savings analyses that compare proposed performance against baseline. A large part of the output is documentation supporting 179D tax incentive and deduction requirements, which has to hold up to review. Day to day you would translate architectural, HVAC and lighting drawings into simulation-ready models using eQuest, DesignBuilder, EPFace and Bluebeam Revu. Just as important is knowing when a model is wrong: running model validation and energy balance checks, verifying unmet load hours, identifying modelling issues and recommending the corrections, and holding consistent modelling standards across the whole project portfolio. You would coordinate with internal project teams to get accurate inputs and deliver on time. The codes here are U.S. codes. ASHRAE 90.1 and 179D are specific to the United States, so hands-on experience on U.S. commercial projects is genuinely required rather than preferred. This is a fully remote position for a candidate based in India, working U.S. business hours.
What you’ll do
- Develop and review baseline and proposed case energy models to ASHRAE 90.1 Appendix G
- Model HVAC systems including VAV with reheat, chilled water plants, air-cooled chillers, packaged rooftop units and heat pump systems
- Analyse building envelope and lighting performance
- Perform energy cost savings analyses comparing baseline and proposed performance
- Prepare detailed documentation supporting 179D tax incentive and deduction requirements
- Translate architectural, HVAC and lighting drawings into simulation-ready models
- Run model validation and energy balance checks
- Verify unmet load hours and resolve what causes them
- Identify modelling issues and recommend corrections
- Maintain consistent modelling standards across the project portfolio
- Coordinate with internal project teams to secure accurate model inputs and deliver on time
