About this role
You will review and interpret clinical medical records to support insurance underwriting - reading long documentation across specialties and disease states, writing concise and structured summaries, and flagging undisclosed conditions, medications, or treatments and any gaps between the records and what an applicant disclosed. This is a clinical judgement role that relies on your medical knowledge, not a medical coding role. You will work independently with confidential records. It is a fully remote role for candidates based in the Philippines, working U.S. business hours (approximately 8 PM to 5 AM IST).
What you’ll do
- Review and interpret clinical medical records across specialties and disease states.
- Write concise, structured, actionable summaries of long clinical documentation.
- Flag undisclosed conditions, medications, or treatments, and gaps between the records and what an applicant disclosed.
- Apply medical knowledge - terminology, diagnoses, treatment plans, and medications - to support underwriting decisions.
- Handle confidential medical records appropriately and work with minimal supervision.
What we’re looking for
- At least five years of hands-on medical records review experience.
- Strong ability to review and interpret clinical records across specialties and disease states.
- Skill in turning long clinical documentation into concise, structured summaries.
- A sharp eye for discrepancies - undisclosed conditions, medications, or treatments, and gaps versus what an applicant disclosed.
- Command of medical terminology, diagnoses, treatment plans, and medications across multiple specialties.
- The judgement to work independently and handle confidential records appropriately.
- Availability for full U.S. business hours (approximately 8 PM to 5 AM IST).
Nice to have
- Prior experience in life or health insurance underwriting support.
- Familiarity with U.S. healthcare documentation standards and privacy regulations (HIPAA).
- Background in medical coding (ICD-10, CPT).
- Experience with electronic health record (EHR) systems.
- Knowledge of medication classes and laboratory reference ranges.
- Experience in clinical case management or utilization review.
