Woodworking Designer - Shop Drawings & 3D Renderings

RemoteFull-TimeAbout 45 hours a week, schedule agreed with the team

This is a hands-on technical role, not a visualization-only role. You will turn room measurements, reference photos and sketches into accurate, dimensioned shop drawings that a workshop builds from: front, side and top views, elevations, sections and component drawings with the right material thicknesses. You will also model the work in SketchUp and produce realistic renderings, but shop drawing accuracy and woodworking construction knowledge come first. If you have never prepared shop drawings for woodwork or furniture that was actually built, this role is not a fit.

Remote, full-time woodworking designer based in India or the Philippines: prepare dimensioned shop drawings for custom woodwork, cabinetry and millwork, and create SketchUp models and realistic 3D renderings.

About this role

This is a full-time, remote role based in India or the Philippines for a skilled, detail-oriented woodworking designer. The primary focus is technical shop drawing production: translating room measurements, reference photographs, sketches and design concepts into precise, fabrication-ready drawings that include front, side and top views, elevations, sections and detailed component breakdowns. You must understand woodworking construction methods, material thicknesses, joinery and dimensional consistency across all deliverables. In addition to the technical drawings, you will create accurate 3D models in SketchUp and produce realistic renderings that help visualize finished woodworking units within their intended spaces. Rendering ability is valued, but technical accuracy and shop drawing competence are the primary selection criteria. You will also be responsible for design interpretation, problem-solving around fabrication feasibility, quality control and clear communication with the internal team throughout each project. Shortlisted candidates complete a practical assessment: a SketchUp model, dimensioned shop drawings and a rendering based on provided reference materials.

What you’ll do

  • Prepare detailed, dimensioned shop drawings for custom woodworking projects
  • Translate room measurements, reference photographs, sketches and design concepts into fabrication-ready drawings
  • Draw front, side and top views, elevations, sections and detailed component breakdowns
  • Specify material thicknesses for panels, plywood, MDF and solid wood
  • Create accurate 3D models in SketchUp
  • Produce realistic renderings that show finished woodworking units within their intended spaces
  • Solve design interpretation and fabrication feasibility questions
  • Keep dimensions consistent across every drawing and run quality control before work is sent
  • Communicate clearly with the internal team throughout each project

What we’re looking for

  • Detailed dimensioned woodworking shop drawings
  • SketchUp (3D modeling)
  • 3D rendering (SketchUp-compatible rendering tools)
  • Woodworking construction methods and fabrication knowledge
  • Interpretation of room measurements, reference photos and sketches
  • Front, side and top views, elevations, sections and component drawings
  • Material thickness specification (panels, plywood, MDF, solid wood)
  • Dimensional accuracy and quality control
  • Strong analytical thinking and spatial reasoning
  • Remote work discipline and time management
  • Mid to senior level: demonstrated professional experience in woodworking design, furniture design, cabinetry, custom millwork or a closely related field, with hands-on shop drawing preparation for actual fabrication
  • Willingness to complete a practical design assessment if shortlisted

Nice to have

  • AutoCAD or comparable CAD software
  • Experience with custom bookcases, built-ins, shelving systems and architectural millwork
  • Knowledge of joinery, hardware placement and assembly methods
  • Experience preparing cut lists, material schedules or component breakdowns
  • Familiarity with laminates, veneers and common finishing materials
  • Experience working with U.S. or international clients
  • A portfolio showing both technical shop drawings and 3D renderings
  • Other furniture, cabinetry or millwork design software
